Silence is Complicity: Confronting Gender-Based Violence
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just a statistic—it is a daily reality for millions, hidden behind closed doors, buried under shame, and sustained by silence. It is the slap that leaves no witness, the words that slowly destroy confidence, the control that suffocates freedom. And too often, it is ignored.
GBV thrives where excuses are made: “it’s a family matter,” “that’s how things are,” “she will be fine.” But violence, in any form, is never normal. It is learned, tolerated, and repeated—until someone chooses to break the cycle.
This is not only a women’s issue. It is a human issue. It affects homes, communities, and generations. Every act of violence echoes beyond the victim—it shapes children, fuels fear, and weakens society.
Ending GBV requires more than awareness. It demands courage:
- The courage to speak, even when it’s uncomfortable
- The courage to believe victims, without questioning their pain
- The courage to hold perpetrators accountable, no matter who they are
Change begins when silence ends. When we stop looking away. When we refuse to normalize harm in any form.
Because no one deserves to live in fear. Not in their home. Not in their relationship. Not in their own skin.
GBV ends when we decide it must.
